In front of Panagia Damiotissa
Second day with my scooter and remembering the shivering at Glifada beach I went straight to Mikri Vigla beach after breakfast. After an hour or so on this tranquil beach, it was time for some lunch. I drove all the way to Aphirantos village. It was very calm, with more or less no restaurants and coffee shops open at this time of the year. Moreover it was pretty cold, because it was cloudy up here! Anyway, I had a couple of souvlaki’s in a tavern seemed to be closed, but there where a guy behind the desk.
I did some walking in the village and some school kids had some fun conversing with me in English. Guess they wanted to practice their skills.
Now it was time to look at some more attractions on Naxos, so I went down to Chalki, turned right towards Moni. Suddenly I saw a sign indicating an old Byzantine church by the road. For some reason I have missed that on my previous visits to Naxos. What I liked with the church was the calm and beautiful suroundings, with olive trees, lovely daisies and also some goats. I have a cool “mobile” photo from this very place, explaining what I try to say: Daisies. Yet another one of the church.
Portara after sunset, Naxos Island
From Glifada beach I went home to Sofi Pension. Later on my way out , I got “stuck” at the reception, for a nice talk with the lovely hosts of this pension! So I was little late when I walked to the sea shore and Chora. So quickly I mounted my tripod a took a few photos from north towards Portara – Apollo Temple. Love the result! After these few shots, it was to late to take more photos in Chora, but I had more opportunities later in the week!
Glifada beach, Naxos Island
The first day with my rented scooter, I started a little late. Well, I guess that Mike at Mike’s Bikes & Cars did not expect any customers at 10 of April. I have to wait for him outside his shop, while he was at the bank office . And I was not the only one. Three cute French girls also wanted a vehicle!
As the faithful reader maybe remember, I first went to Chalki for lunch. As a result I arrived to my “first” beach as late as 5 P.M. Glifada is a lovely beach indeed, but my intention to work on my tan had no effect what’s so ever! I was almost freezing by the somewhat chilling wind. But maybe I shall look upon this with positive eyes; I did not burn myself; a white guy who just arrived from the Swedish winter!
Greek salad, Yiannis Tavern, Chalki, Naxos
Suddenly I went to Greece, in the beginning of April. OK, I decide a couple of weeks ahead, wondering when Spring would arrive to Sweden. On Naxos I have a habit of visiting Chalki village on my first ride on my rented scooter. Why change a winning concept? Chalki is a calm place and recent years quite charming , the salad at Yiannies is lovely, and I am hungry after my first ride!
A photo from beautiful Naxos town and part of the harbour, Cyclades, Greece.
I am spending 10-11 days in Greece and the Cyclades, on Naxos Islands and from tomorrow Folegandros Island.
